RATIOS, RATES, PERCENTS, AND PROPORTIONS

A ratio is a number, often expressed as a fraction, used to make comparisons between two quantities.
Comparing Ratios:
There are three different ways to compare ratios:
1. Decimals
2. Equivalent fractions
3. Percents
Types of Ratios:
A ratio can be identifed as part-to-part or part-to-whole.
Part-to-part ratio - Represents a relationship between one part of a whole and another part of the whole.
Part-to-whole ratio - Represents a relationship between one part of a whole and the whole.
Example:
I have 1 dog and 2 cats
1 to 2 would be an example of a part-to-part ratio.
1 to 3 would be an example of a part-to-whole ratio.
Proportion - An equation stating that two ratios are equal
